Brown, beautiful and beguiling... fly fishing for wild trout in Tasmania

is an experience for both the beginner and the international veteran who has fished the world over.     In 1839 the first brown trout were released in Tasmania and these wild fish have bred ever since. Arguably the purest stock in the world, Tasmania’s isolation and abundance of perfect conditions make fishing here a dream location.     Tarraleah Estate boasts the only Loomis endorsed fishing Lodge in Australia - and is ranked as “One of the Top Twenty Most Luxurious Fishing Lodges in the World”.     All this plus a Loomis Pro-Tackle fishing store; the only fishing tackle shop in the Highlands.     Learn the art and craft of fly fishing with some of Australia’s best guides, create your own fly and then bring home the wildest brown trout nature can find - up to 20 pounds last year from water you can just see from the Lodge - but that was exceptional.     We have over thirty lakes and more than six streams within a thirty minute radius. Local lakes have rainbow trout and Atlantic salmon as well as trophy size brown trout.Bag limits of 12 beautiful big wild fish per day apply.  Average weights around two to four pounds - it is the experience that is truely different. Tasmania's speciality is ‘sight fishing’ where you spot and then stalk a specific fish; tremendously exciting and like no where else on the planet. Been bone fishing in the Caribbean? Similar style but with wild brown trout. Sometimes a perfect cast required, others you can almost touch.     Be guided by our in house guides with all the equipment available, trips can be for one day or a month or anything in between. Good fishing between September and March but book guides in advance - especially during the busy November to January period      Try out some extraordinary Loomis rods with our compliments. See the difference a $1000 rod can make to your ability to cast with effective length and deadly accuracy.     With access to some of the best guides in Australia, we have fishing to suit all levels of experience: individual anglers, couples, mates, fathers and daughters, mothers and sons...Or just enjoy the wilderness, go for a walk, take a massage or a tour while she goes fishing..      Fishing on streams, lakes, rivers and dams are all with in reach; wade, walk, be taken by boat, or try kayak fishing in one of our ‘fish yaks’ for fishing with a difference.     Our Loomis Pro-tackle Store at 'Adventure Tarraleah' has everything you will need and is the place for the coolest and most deadly fishing gear in Tasmania.     We stock clothing, boots and a full range of rods, reels, flies and lines; waders, provisions, books and lessons. We also run fly-tying sessions and casting schools.     “Fear no fish” is the Loomis logo - and not for nothing. Local trout even refer to our store as ‘the heart of darkness’ - so tackle up for an unfair advantage as well as looking the part.We can even arrange for a trophy fish to be sent home - if you catch it, you can stuff it..      Talk to one of our guides about the various fishing options and the best waters in the region.     Even if you choose to fish alone, never feel under whelmed in front of your quarry - we can provide expert advice, guidance and even a little (actually, very little) sympathy when your adversary gets the better of you.     Come and stay with us at Tarraleah and get truly hooked at Australia's only G.Loomis accredited Lodge.
